Founded in
1956 by priest Nguyen Khoa Cu, the school originally named Nguyen Duy Khang.
When the Vietnam war was over in 1975, it was nationalized and became a public
high school ( for both lower and upper secondary students) with the name Thanh
My Tay. In 1999, it was renamed as Gia Dinh High School, serving only 10 to 12
graders.
Gia Dinh High
School prides itself on the quality of its students – who are the ‘cream of the
local crop’. In fact, to enter the school, potential candidates have to compete
fiercely with their peers to achieve their highest scores possible. But to have
this privilege, our former teachers and admisnistrators have gone to great
pains to bring continuous and momentous changes in all aspects. At our school,
there are gifted classes, merit-based and need-based classes. This allowed
teacher to differentiate their teaching and facilitate students’ learning needs
and career orientations. Every year, our principal and vice-principals even
made great effort to visit lower secondary schools in the city and make
speeches to encourage students, especially the able ones, to choose our school.
What we have been doing and will continue to carry on is to develop and enhance
our school prestige as well as the well-beings of our dear students.
